The concept of a shared community offers social dividends that are not obvious to the casual observer. Brays simply functions differently from a social perspective, in no small part due to the caring staff members who are dedicated to bringing forth a vast array of activities for our Owners. Having these events and activities ensures easy opportunities to meet different people in varied settings.
A "Nature Walk," for instance, fosters a great opportunity to meet folks with shared interests, as do “Ride and Dines,” during which folks gather for a trail ride on horses, followed by an outdoor meal prepared by staff. "Shoot and Grills” are a similar concept in the sporting clays setting, as are “Twilight Nine and Dines” in the golf world.
Oyster Roasts and Lowcounty Boils
The community hosts multiple oyster roasts throughout the year. These events are a great way for new owners to meet their neighbors or for existing owners to reconnect with friends after spending time in other parts of the country or traveling.
It is as easy as showing up and finding a spot at one of the many oyster tables, thanks to our staff who take care of cooking the oysters and distributing them amongst the tables. At that point, it is up to you to dig in and enjoy!
Time-honored local traditions like regular oyster roasts bring people together in an outdoor setting and mark the rhythm of the changing seasons. Owners can also host private oyster roasts or lowcountry boils at the gazebo. If you choose to entertain at home, our staff provide tremendous help for private functions including food and beverage service.
Wine Classes
Brays’ own resident sommelier Alex Young helps owners take the mystery out of wine by hosting periodic wine classes. During the season, a monthly wine class ranges in subjects such as regions and countries to classes focusing on sensory tastings and champagnes.
“Alex does a great job with these wine classes,” said owner Jim Marcogliese. “We get to sample a lot of different types of wines. He is able to sell them to us at a really great price and I am able to stock my wine cellar. It is a fabulous opportunity.”
Organized Travel
One of the benefits of owning property is having the ability to enjoy spending time with people who have similar means and interests. These friendships often extend beyond the boundaries of Brays. Each year, groups of owners travel to virtually every inch of the globe together, whether to sample fine wines, cycle through beautiful countryside or pursue fish and game in the earth’s most pristine and remote settings.
The social spectrum ranges from more serious gatherings, including spiritual groups, to cerebral gatherings such as our book club. For a little light-hearted fun there's Mahjong, bridge and a variety of other fun activities.
As an owner, you have the ability to participate in as much or as little as you choose. Want to mingle? Head up to the Plantation Grill and have a cocktail or a glass of wine. Prefer to have a quiet night at home? Curl up with a good book in front of the fire. Immersing yourself into the plantation socially could not be more simple. Everyone here has one thing in common - the fact that they collectively own Brays Island. Then, every time you attend an event, you meet your neighbors in a relaxed and very organic setting.
