In the late 1990's, our Director of Golf Mike Ingram had a vision to create a unique golf event for our owners. Identifying a perfect teaching opportunity, Mike developed our annual golf school, which we’ve now held for the last 21 years here at Brays. A great learning experience for beginners or more advanced golfers looking to hone their skills, the golf school is a three-day long event with six guest golf pros who are brought in from all over the country.
Held in March to jumpstart the golf season, the golf school focuses on the fundamentals of the game. Over the course of the three day school, mornings are full of classes and presentations on anything from putting and full game to short swing and sand traps, while afternoons are spent with on-course instruction. The 5:1 student/teacher ratio allows each group of similar skill sets to receive the ultimate teaching experience throughout the weekend. Just this past year, out of the 35 participants, 21 of them were new to the school!
With a 14-acre practice facility, the structure of the school incorporates several teaching stations for daily practice rotations:
- Putting green
- Short game green
- Wedge range
- Uneven lie tee box
- Full swing tee box
Each year, the visiting pros are enthusiastic about teaching the students and passing along their expertise. With similar methodologies and teaching principles, it makes it easy to continue instruction even when the three-day school ends. Golf school creates a great momentum leading into the season and once the event is over, Mike works with any owners that are interested in continuing to fine tune their game.
Getting out on the course whether it be for golf school, a round of 18 or a few hours on the practice facility, playing leads to meeting new owners and building new relationships. And without tee times, there’s always time to golf! With a clubhouse and dining for post-game drinks or lunch, it’s a wonderful way for owners to come together and bond over a shared love of the game.
